The Oxford English Dictionary is the online equivalent of the 20-plus volumes of the printed dictionary (2nd edition). It is a guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of over half a million words, covering the English language from the earliest times to the present day. Entries are illustrated with quotations from a wide range of English language sources from around the world.
