A database is an index to published journal articles.
- AMED - Allied & Complementary Medicine covers a selection of journals in complementary medicine, palliative care, and several professions allied to medicine
- BioMed Central - A collection of nursing and health related databases covering worldwide research in medical and nursing fields.
- BMJ Journals Online - A collection of full text journals published by the British Medical Journal.
- CINAHL Complete - CINAHL Complete is the authoritative resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers.
- Cochrane Library - includes The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews - evidence based systematic reviews providing high quality information to people providing and receiving care and those responsible for research, teaching, funding and administration at all levels.
- Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) - Used by clinicians and researchers to diagnose and classify mental disorders. Our subscription includes access to DSM-5, DSM-5 Clinical Cases, and the DSM-5 Handbook of Differential Diagnosis.
- Embase - Embase is a major biomedical and pharmaceutical database, indexing over 3,500 journals.
- Maternity and Infant Care - Abstracts to journal articles from over 550 international English language journals, books, and grey literature relating to pregnancy, labour, birth, postnatal care, and neonatal care and the first year of an infant’s life.
- Medicines Complete - Contains some of the world's leading drug and healthcare reference sources.
- Medline (with Full-Text) - Provides information from the fields of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Veterinary medicine, Allied health and pre-clinical sciences.
- Nursing & Allied Health Database - covering nursing, allied health, alternative and complementary medicine, and much more.
- Ovid - Key provider of Nursing Resources to the NHS and nursing schools.
- Proquest Central - Multiple databases across all major subject areas, including business, health and medical, social sciences, arts and humanities, education, science and technology, and religion.
- PsycARTICLES - A database of full-text articles from 56 journals published by the American Psychological Association.
- PsycINFO - American Psychological Association’s (APA) resource for abstracts of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations.
- Public Health Database- Covers nutrition, physical fitness and hygiene, population studies,social services and welfare, statistics and more.
- Scopus - one of the largest abstracting and indexing databases of research literature and quality web sources. It offers access to over 20,500 titles from more than 5000 international publishers, with abstracts available back to 1966. Coverage includes scientific, technical, medical and social sciences literature including, arts and humanities.
- ScienceDirect - 1500 scientific, technical and medical full-text journals.
- Social Care Online - The UK’s largest database of information and research on all aspects of social care and social work.
- SPORTDiscus Fulltext - consists of more than 600,000 records of journal articles and books on sport, fitness, and related topics
- Wiley Online Library - 757 journal titles in the subject areas of science, technology and medicine.

- Academic Search Complete - Includes biological sciences, economics, communications, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts and literature, medical sciences and women's studies.
- Acland's Anatomy - Acland's Video Atlas of Human Anatomy
- BMJ Best Practice - BMJ Best Practice is a decision support tool for use at the point of care. It contains thousands of diagnosis and diagnostic tests, diagnostic and treatment guidelines, over 200 patient information leaflets, and provides medical calculators covering equations, decision trees, converters and optimisers.
- EThOS - allows you to search over 250,000 theses records, freely download the full text of any UK thesis that has been digitised, and order for downloading any thesis from one of the participating institutions. It is managed by the British Library.
- HMIC (Health Management Information Consortium) - includes the database of the Department of Health's Library and Information Services and the King’s Fund Information and Library Service database. Together they contain in excess of 240,000 records relating to health and social care management information mostly with a UK focus.
- Primal Pictures (Anatomy.tv) - Features 3D computer graphic models of human anatomy, dissection and radiology slides, animations and movie clips of biomechanics and surgical procedures.
- SN@P Numeracy Support - Healthcare students can access free resources on SN@P to help improve numeracy skills and boost confidence:
• Take a baseline assessment to better understand your strengths and identify areas to work on
• Prepare yourself for numeracy modules by practicing calculations and accessing a range of contextualised resources (there are specific questions for Nursing, NMP, Midwifery, Mental Health, Adult and Child Nursing). - Newspapers - Current and historical newspaper collections from various news outlets.
