Use Library Search to locate print books. The catalogue will tell you exactly what we have in stock and where it is located.

Alternatively, use Reading Lists Online to locate items on your module reading lists.

Electronic reference works which may be useful for geography and environmental studies include:

  • International Encyclopedia of Human Geography - covers every field of human geography including agricultural, cultural, economic, political, regional, social and urban geography.
  • Encyclopedia of Ecology - articles covering many themes including ecological indicators, models and processes, evolutionary ecology, global ecology, human ecology and the philosophy of ecology.

Multi-Subject eBook Collections

Journals and Articles

Finding specific journals or journal articles

If you have a reference for a particular journal article, or if you want to find out if we take a particular journal title, use the Journal Finder.

Searching for journal articles (Multi-subject, full-text, journal databases)

Searching for journal articles (Abstracting & indexing databases)

Should you want to undertake a more thorough search for research materials/literature, try searching the following abstract and indexing databases. Unlike our other databases, generally you will only find the abstract of articles within these databases. Conference papers are also available too.

Additional Resources

UCLan subscribes to a range of additional e-resources, aside from the e-journals, which you will not find freely available on the Web. Within the geography and environment disciplines you may find the following useful:

  • Digimap and Digimap Historic - Digimap is an on-line service that allows users to view and create maps of any location in Great Britain using Ordnance Survey map data. Users can also download Ordnance Survey map data for use in other software packages, such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS), drawing software and CAD. Historic Digimap provides access to the Landmark County series of maps published between 1843 and 1939, and the National Grid maps from 1945 onwards.
  • Lexis PSL (Professional Support Lawyer) - a reference service providing guidance on both what the law is and how to apply it in practice. It is delivered in the form of practice area modules with each one organised by topic, containing practice notes, checklists, precedents, forms, and selected cases, legislation and regulatory rules. It is monitored and updated on a daily basis.
  • Nexis UK - news and business intelligence drawn from over 29,000 sources. These sources include local, regional and national newspapers, newsletters, magazines and trade journals, newswires, broadcast transcripts, company news databases, government documents, legislation and legal journals.
  • Lexis Library - UK law reports and legislation together with legal journals. It also incorporates the online version of Halsbury's Laws of England; a key legal research encyclopedia covering all aspects of English Law.
  • Microsoft Imagine - free download of MS Project 2016 and MS Visio 2016
  • SAGE Research Methods - a tool created to help researchers, faculty and students with their research projects. It contains content from more than 640 books, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, and handbooks
  • Westlaw - law reports and legislation from the UK and Europe, together with many legal journals.
