Books

To find books on the Library shelves, use Library Search. If the Library does not have the book you want, you can request a copy from the Document Supply Service.

Below are some of the main class numbers which may be relevant to studies in English as a Foreign Language (EFL), or the teaching of English as a second or other language (TESOL). Recommended Resources for English as a Foreign Language, TESOL

Journal articles and research papers:

  • Academic Search Complete A useful full-text, multi-subject database of over 6000 journals.
  • JSTOR A full-text database of journals in the Arts and Sciences.
  • MLA (Modern Languages Association) Indexes of over 6,000 literature and language journals, as well as books, essay collections, working papers, proceedings, dissertations, and bibliographies, from 1963 onwards. MLA will include articles on Business English, and communication generally
  • PsycInfo For psycholinguistic aspects of language and language learning.
  • Project Muse Has full-text and abstracts and covers subject areas including literature, history, visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, politics and gender studies.
  • Sage Premier Journals Online - a collection of over 400 full text journals
  • Science Direct A full-text database that covers most subject areas.
  • Social Science Abstracts Abstracts for a wide range of language-related articles from sources such as the ‘Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research’ or ‘Human Communication Research’
  • Taylor & Francis Library - journal subscriptions include 57 titles in the Communications Studies area.
  • Teacher Reference Center An index of over 260 titles from the most popular teacher and administrator trade journals, periodicals and books.
