Books

Search for books and eBooks on Library Search. It will tell you what we have in stock and whether you can access them online from most of our eBook providers - Please note Library Search only searches within the title.

If you go to the eBook Collections directly you can then search within the full-text of the eBooks.

Multi-subject eBook Collections

  • Ebook Central - is our largest collection of over 130,000 ebooks from a range of publishers and covering all subject areas with new titles added monthly. 
  • Other eBook Collections

If the library does not have a particular book or journal article you would like to read you are able to request a copy from the Inter-Library loan service.

Journals and Articles

To search for a specific journal title use Journal Finder.

  • Diffusion Journal - the UCLan Journal of Undergraduate research from the School of Humanities, Language and Global Studies

eResources and Databases

Subject Specific databases:

  • British Education Index - This collection covers aspects of educational policy and administration, evaluation and assessment, technology and special educational needs.
  • Child Development & Adolescent Studies - An Indexing and abstracting collection covering literature on the growth and development of children through to the age of 21. Content covers worldwide biomedical and social sciences sources.
  • CINAHL Complete - Links to articles on Deaf Education, sign languages and other related topics including allied health and nursing related topics.
  • Education Abstracts - Features content on a wide array of subject areas including adult education, comparative education, government funding, higher education, school administration and teacher evaluation.
  • Education Database - Coverage spans the literature on primary, secondary and higher education as well as special education, home schooling and adult education.
  • JSTOR - An archive of older journal issues covering areas including arts and humanities.
  • MLA [Modern Languages Association] - Language and Literature database with entries relating to Sign Language and deafness. 
  • PsycINFO - Journal articles, reports, books and dissertations in psychology and related disciplines, e.g. psycholinguistics 
  • Social Policy & Practice - Many articles relating to social issues of deafness can be found in this database

Multi Subject databases:

  • Academic Search Complete - comprehensive multi-disciplinary database with good coverage on arts, humanities, languages and education.
  • ProQuest Central - Covers all major subject areas, including business, health and medical, social sciences, arts and humanities, education, science and technology, and religion.
  • Sage Premier Journals Online - Covers all major subject areas
  • Taylor and Francis Journals - multi-disciplinary database including subjects of arts and humanities.

Multi Subject abstracting and indexing databases:

These databases have a wider scope than those listed above but do not contain any full-text articles

Sign Language Resources

  • Signworld - This resource comprises of a suite of sign language learning products enabling users to learn, practice and improve their British Sign Language. You will need to be assigned a username/password from your tutor.

E-Newspapers

  • Nexis - full text news database including UK and worldwide content as well as foreign language news. Includes nearly 30,000 sources.
