Ridwanah – known as Riz - is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).  Since 2001, Riz has taken a core role in developing the Community Leadership programmes at Foundation, BA and Masters Level.  Riz is highly experienced in volunteer management and delivering community based learning and has supported over 17,000 students and community volunteers as well as the development of successful bids totalling £3million.

Riz’s community based experience in the field of Community Leadership, in particular, her key role in the development and training of various mentoring initiatives has led to the planning and delivery of several conference research papers, one which has been published in the International Journal of Social Work and Human Services. Riz is also part of the Board of Directors for the International Mentoring Association based in USA with the University of Florida.

Riz is very effective in academic leadership and curriculum development and enhancement. She is Module Leader and Course Leader for a series of part-time, full-time and blended learning teaching programmes, providing people in the community and students from all over the university with specialist experience and training from Volunteering and Community Action, Mentoring in the Community, Practice-Based Research and supporting students in leading independent community research projects. Riz also leads the UCLan quality assurance processes and procedures for all Community Leadership programmes and CPD qualifications with the Institute of Leadership and Management.

Research

Research Activities

Riz’s research in community mentoring, peer leadership and community development stems from her purpose and values to make a difference in the lives of others.

Projects

Riz has developed mentoring projects locally throughout Lancashire and internationally, with UCLan Students and young people from the Agadir Orphanage Centre in Morocco.

Riz also leads the Higher Education Volunteering Project within the Centre for Volunteering and Community Leadership at UCLan.
