For the last twelve years, Rick has managed and delivered a range of courses focussed on mental health nursing, counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT). Clinically, he has worked within mental health and psychological therapies for 20 years in a range of clinical settings as a community psychiatric nurse, counsellor and accredited cognitive behavioural therapist.

Originally qualifying as a Mental Health Nurse in 1990, Rick's career has been defined by a range of clinical, educational and management experiences. Within his clinical roles he has always had a passion for psychological therapies and in 1995 qualified as a Person Centred Counsellor gaining considerable experience in the delivery of therapeutic interventions in both primary and secondary care NHS settings.

In 2003 he qualified in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) with a first class Honours degree and later gained a MSc in Advanced Practice in CBT. He currently undertakes clinical practice within a Health and Wellbeing Service and is accredited by the BABCP.

PGCE qualified, Rick has considerable, recognised experience and expertise in good practice in teaching and learning. His dedication to facilitating students learning has been demonstrated by embracing new ideas and ways of teaching and learning. This has included didactic teaching, lectures, group facilitation, seminars, role play, skills training, problem based learning, on line learning, virtual learning environments, IPL, and OSCES. His academic expertise was recognised with the award of a Teaching Fellowship in 2007 by UoC with particular commendation for innovative ways of student assessment and team leadership.
