Following completion of business administration studies in Switzerland, Marlis moved to England to enhance her English language skills. This was followed by registered nurse training in London and extensive critical care experiences within the NHS. Working as a nurse in a public school, voluntary nursing in Pakistan and extensive foreign travels have all added to her cultural and nursing experiences and knowledge.

Marlis joined the teaching team at UCLan in 2003 primarily teaching pre registration nursing students. She led modules concentrating on the acute assessment and management of adult patients and ethics modules also.

She is the adult field leader for the Msc pre registration nursing and responsible for ethics teaching for medical students.

She has an honorary contract with an A&E department allowing for currency in her teaching of clinical skills and nursing theory. Furthermore she is the overseas transcript officer for preregistration nursing.
