Kirsty Heimerl-Moggan is a senior lecturer in conference interpreting and course leader for the MA Interpreting and Translation. She is an international conference, business and legal interpreter and has interpreted in a wide range of settings including international events such as G8/EU meetings, on TV, in automotive and sports settings (to name but a few) since 1994. She is currently undertaking her PhD studies in the field of note-taking for public service interpreters.

Kirsty has been teaching interpreting at UCLan since August 2008. Before that she taught interpreting at MA level (starting in 1999) at institutions including the University of Leeds, the Hochschule für Angewandte Sprachen (at Sprachen-und Dolmetscher-Institut) Munich, Germany and the University of Salford. At UCLan, she is the course leader for the MA in Interpreting and Translation in the School of Language and Global Studies (LGS).
Her work in the field of interpreting has involved designing courses for course providers in the UK and Germany and professional interpreter bodies and most recently designing the MA Interpreting and Translation for UCLan where hitherto no interpreting was taught. A further aspect of her work has been vetting and interviewing interpreters for a number of professional panels for organisations such as the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL), Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) and the Metropolitan Police Service in London (amongst others).
As well as teaching conference interpreting, Kirsty teaches Public Service Interpreting on courses such as the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) in the law, health and local government options, courses for Home Office interpreters, prison interpreters and tailor-made courses for other providers.
She is a practising international conference, business and legal interpreter and has interpreted at many international events, for example for heads of state and government, at EU presidency events, political meetings and a wide range of business, sporting and academic conferences.
Kirsty’s publications include “Note-taking for Public Service Interpreters” and she is currently working on further publications in the field of interpreting to add to this publication.
She is a Chartered Interpreter/Educator, aiic pre-candidate, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL), Fellow of the Institute for Translation and Interpreting (ITI) and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is a full member of the Bundesverband der Übersetzer und Dolmetscher BDÜ (professional association of interpreters and translators in Germany), the VKD BDÜ (German Association of Conference Interpreters), Association of Police & Court Interpreters (APCI).
