Full Profile

Karen graduated from London University in 1995 and went on to study her Legal Practice Course at UCLan and her LLM at Staffordshire University.  In practice, Karen specialised in family law dealing with divorce, separation, domestic violence, and private and public children matters.  She left practice in 2010 to stand for parliament in Hyndburn, Lancashire, and then decided to change career and took a lecturer position at UCLan.  She completed her PG Certificate in Higher Education in 2016.

Karen’s role includes expanding the pro bono provision of the School of Law and Social Science and this led to opening up the Law Clinic to the public in 2015, partnering with Citizens Advice to provide a Drop In service in Preston town centre, and lately introducing a dedicated Immigration Law Clinic session once a month.
