Jonathan is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art where he earned both an Honours degree and Masters degree in Graphic Design. He has worked as a designer, illustrator, fine artist and maker of bespoke concrete furniture. He has lectured at Glasgow School of Art, Edinburgh College of Art and is currently the Graphic Design head of course at UCLan.
Jonathan began his lecturing career in 1998 at Glasgow School of Art while still working as a designer for ink-tank, a small award winning Edinburgh based agency. Jonathan continued to lecture part time for several years at both Glasgow School of Art and Edinburgh College of Art whilst continuing to work as both designer and illustrator. Jonathan has collaborated with many Scottish writers and in 1994 co-founded The Yellow Café, an event/club that profiled writers, artists and musicians and which ran for over 10 years.
In 2004 Jonathan became a full time senior lecturer and in 2008 became head of course. He is responsible for structuring and delivery of the course as well as lecturing.
Jonathan is one of the co-founders of The Disciples of Design and in 2011 the work was awarded an Excellence in Teaching & Learning Award by the Vice Chancellor of the University.
Over the last 10 years Jonathan has gained much success with his students picking up over 30 National and International awards including D&AD (Design & Art Direction) RSA(Royal Society of Arts) Roses Awards and the Little Chip digital awards. During the time that Jonathan has been course leader the course has picked up close to 100 awards both Nationally and Internationally.

The book contains valuable words of advice alongside examples of their professional work and is a printed extension of The Disciples of Design profile section. It has been compiled, edited and art directed by Jonathan Harker, Andrew Bainbridge and Mike Kirkpatrick. Due for publication 2015.
As course leader Jonathan is responsible for designing and delivering course structure and content. He is active in giving lectures, demonstrations and workshops to all undergraduate students. Jonathan is also the link tutor for BA(Hons) Graphic Design AAS College, Thessaloniki, Greece. BA(Hons) Graphic Design Hebei, China. Foundation Degree in Graphic Design, Runshaw College and BA(Hons) Graphic Arts, Hugh Baird College, Liverpool.
Jonathan is currently external examiner for the BA(Hons) Graphic Design course at Chelsea College of Art and is also the external examiner for the BA(Hons) Graphic Design course at York St John University.
Jonathan has exhibited widely for many years, most recently in the 2011 Global Echo international printmaking exhibition. He has previously been shortlisted for the Noble-Grossart painting award and has paintings and prints in private collections across the world.
