Barry is a part-time associate lecturer and the module lead for the second year Roads Policing module on the Foundation Degree in Policing and Criminal Investigation.

Full Profile

Barry initially trained as a teacher, reaching head of department status at schools here in the UK and in The Netherlands before changing his career path to policing.

He served as a police officer in the Greater Manchester Police for over 30 years initially as patrol constable and subsequently as a sergeant covering roles in the patrol, licensing, neighbourhood, custody and training areas, both on division and at district training centre.

For the latter half of his service Barry specialised in Roads Policing. In addition to shift supervision he also had specific responsibilities for supervisory cover in relation to serious injury and fatal road traffic collisions both on a divisional and force-wide basis following his successful completion of a Senior Investigator (Roads Policing) Officer course.

His last six years of police service saw him working at GMP Traffic Command at Eccles where he was responsible for the formation of the force's Special Escort Group, and the establishment and subsequent running of the force's Road Traffic Collision Investigation Unit.
