I am a professionally qualified psychiatric nurse with over 23 year’s experience working in both community and inpatient settings. I have over 12 years’ experience in education working across all courses within Health and Social care. I currently work part time as a lecturer on the Health and Social Care team and I am also a director of a property development company specifically working with the healthcare sector developing affordable housing solutions for service users.
I graduated in 1993 as Psychiatric Nurse and have worked across a range of services within Mental Health. My first clinical post was working on a 15 bedded mixed inpatient unit treating service users with dual diagnosis. Here is where I developed a particular interest in service user rehabilitation from initial admission to independent living. I worked across the public and private sector, this inspired me to help set up my own care business focusing in community rehabilitation and ensuring service users acquired tenancies prior to discharge and were equipped with the appropriate skills to help them manage those tenancies.
I am particularly interested in the development of affordable housing for service users who find it difficult to acquire and maintain their own homes due to the impact of a range of long term conditions.
Within the university I have been involved in the development and delivery of courses of all levels from Foundation degree within Health and Social care developing Assistant Practitioners within the NHS to Bachelor’s degrees. I have worked to course leader level but now have the opportunity to work part time at the university while maintaining a role within my own company.
