Mr Sloan is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. He undertakes general orthopaedic surgery and trauma. Mr Sloan's specialist interest is lower limb surgery, in particular surgery for hip and knee conditions. He regularly performs hip and knee joint replacement surgery and arthroscopic surgery for the knee.

Originally from the North West, he moved to Cardiff to study medicine and graduated from the University of Wales, College of Medicine, in 1999. He undertook his initial training in South Wales and later spent time at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. He returned to the North West for his higher specialist training. He gained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2002, and then the Intercollegiate Fellowship in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2008.

Mr Sloan took up his consultant post in November 2010. During his final year of training he was fortunate to undertake the Charnley Arthroplasty Fellowship at Wrightington Hospital, working under the supervision of two of the UK’s leading arthroplasty surgeons.

He has an interest in medical education and research. He has published and presented both nationally and internationally as well as contributing book chapters for orthopaedic texts. His publications include papers on surgical approaches for total hip replacement and pain management in foot and ankle surgery. He attends national and international meetings. He has developed his interest in teaching and training regularly teaching junior doctors and medical students as well as examining medical students. He is regularly invited to teach on regional and national courses.
