Post 16

Many of our post-16 activities focus on giving students a taste of what it is like to study at university, giving them valuable experience of the teaching styles they'll encounter from a range of subjects they may choose to study.

UCLan On...

Students in Year 12 are adjusting to the changes in learning and teaching styles and the increased independence on offer. Mentors at UCLan will help them to carry out thorough investigations into their skills and endeavour to match them with suitable careers and courses.

Practical sessions based on specific subject areas, throughout the autumn and spring terms. The events run between 10:00am – 14:30pm

UCLan Inspiring You

By combining tried and tested HE awareness raising activities alongside structured, project-based sessions with an aim to:

  • Develop awareness or progression
  • Encourage pupils to use their critical thinking skills
  • Use problem solving strategies
  • Develop study skills
  • Encourage independent learning
  • Grow written and verbal communication skills

Audience: Students in Year 10 & 11 will complete their knowledge on HE and will reinforce the fact that university is an option available to them in the future.

There are five dates to choose from in the spring term with a maximum of 30 places per school booking on each date. The event will run between 10:00am – 14:30pm.

European Day of Languages

WEDNESDAY 26 SEPTEMBER 2018

The European Day of Languages celebrates our linguistic diversity and passion behind our language learning for all.

Join us for culture talks, career options and tours of our campus and language facilities. At lunchtime, colourful displays from our international students can be viewed and visited allowing pupils to sample foreign foods whilst being greeted in a plethora of languages.

We particularly encourage attendances from Year 10 and 11 pupils, as this event is beneficial to GCSE students. We also welcome year 12 AS Language Students to this event.

The Biochemical Society Schools Challenge

Wednesday 17th October 2018

This event is for teams of five Year 10 high school students from across Lancashire. Teams will undertake hands-on workshops covering all areas of modern bioscience to give young people a first-hand experience of what makes a bioscience-based career so fulfilling – from biomedical science and neurobiology, to emergency medicine and clinical pharmacology. These workshops will give students insight into the roles of various bio-scientists and help them aspire to careers in these fields. Teams will test their knowledge in a quiz as they complete the workshops, with the winners being presented with a small prize and the title of Future Bioscience Schools’ Challenge Winners 2018.

Teams of five year 10 students from any school in Lancashire. Please note each school may send only one team. The Challenge takes place at the UCLan’s Preston Campus.

Lunch and refreshments are provided, along with a contribution towards travel costs.

UCLan Insight

Do you want to inspire, motivate and excite pupils in Year 9 into continuing to do well in school as they build up to GCSE preparation and beyond?  If so, then the UCLan Insight events are what you are looking for.

Typical sessions are Introduction to Higher Education, Student Life, Campus Tour, and subject influenced sessions from the departments of Psychology, Humanities & Social Sciences and the Confucius Society plus many more.

There are five dates from which you can choose. With a maximum of 30 places per booking on each date. The event will run between 10:00am – 14:30pm.  During the lunchtime period, complimentary packed lunch is provided for each pupil and staff member supporting the visit.
