Football Player Development Programme

The Football Player Development Programme provides a unique opportunity to combine your degree studies with training and playing. You'll do this via a structured weekly programme so that you can keep developing as a player.

The curriculum has been organised so blocks of time are available each day to support training, conditioning, fixtures, and recovery. We partner with Macclesfield FC to co-deliver our Football Player Development Programme.

The programme integrates opportunities to play for the University’s Football Clubs (men’s and women’s) in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition. Under the leadership of the University’s Head Coaches Derek Egan and Jade Richards. Derek has Football league experience with Chester City and Salford. As well as many years of experience in football development and coach tutoring for the FA. Jade combines being a senior player for Blackburn Rovers LFC with being the University Head Coach. These key University staff work alongside coaching staff from Macclesfield FC in the delivery of the programme.

The programme is primarily undertaken on the grass and 3G surfaces at our multi-million-pound Sports Arena. It is also supported by our-campus facilities the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre and the Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation Centre.

Please note that UK students must be on the BSc Football Studies course to be eligible for the programme. The tuition fee for this course, which includes the Football Player Development Programme, is £9250 per year.

The Football Player Development Programme is open to international students interested in all of the programmes listed above. The tuition fee for the above courses, which includes the Football Player Development Programme, is £29,990 for each year of the BSc programmes.
