Research led teaching in superb facilities

We are proud of our excellent reputation for delivering industry-recognised courses, approved and accredited by related professional bodies. Teaching is delivered by researchers and practitioners, ensuring that students gain knowledge of the subject theory and practical experience via lab experiments, established placement links and public patient engagement.

We maintain a strong research profile with staff who are recognised for their cutting-edge research – so that courses are contemporary and relevant to the future employment of our students. Research and teaching are underpinned by an excellent learning environment with state-of-the-art laboratories of industry standards.

We have a proven track record of delivering successful bioscience courses, accredited and/or approved by relevant professional bodies: the Institute of Biomedical Science; Health and Care Professions Council; and the National School of Healthcare Science as part of Health Education England. A strong research-led culture combined with state-of-the-art laboratories ensures our teaching is always cutting edge.

Our new MPharm Pharmacy course offers a modern integrated programme designed around the needs of patients, employers, regulators and students – preparing graduates to practise as future professional pharmacists. Our research-led teaching coupled with a hands-on practical application and a variety of placements in hospitals, community and industry, makes us a stand out choice.

Students are taught by a strong team of research active staff. Our research expertise expands into areas such as brain tumours, neurodegenerative diseases, drug delivery methods and the development of new anti-microbial compounds. Our research underpins our teaching, ensuring that our courses are contemporary, and students have the opportunity to immerse in this research culture through projects and via the Research Internship Scheme.

The BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science degree has enjoyed accreditation by the Institute of Biomedical Science for over 10 years. Our course delivery enables you to experience a wide range of topics, setting you up for a range of career aspirations, including NHS laboratories, research or graduate entry Medicine and Dentistry.

Our BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science degree is officially part of the Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) for the NHS.
