The School offers courses at all levels to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the creative industries.
Practitioner-based teaching is housed within our purpose-built £15 million Media Factory with its excellent industry-standard facilities. In addition to this, the School has its own television set which was recently used in the joint partnership initiative with ITV.
We utilise our industry links to deliver a vibrant programme of guest lectures and professional workshops. The School attracts and develops exceptionally talented students and graduates, many of whom are recognised with success at industry awards.

In Media Technology, our courses have excellent industry links which offer you the opportunity to work on live briefs and client-based projects, providing you with a chance to enhance your skills alongside professionals. With courses including Digital Visual Effects, Games Design, Media Production and TV Production, you will be studying hands-on from the start.
We offer an exciting range of Performance courses which have creative, vocational and hands-on practice-based activities at their centre. They are staffed by tutors who are not only knowledgeable and experienced in their fields, but are also active practitioners. Courses include Acting; Dance Performance and Teaching; Music; Music Production; and Music Theatre.
The School’s connection with industry means that our courses are all created and updated to be in line with what employers require. Practice-based teaching ensures that students experience study in ways that replicate how the various creative industries operate.
Teaching is based in the Media Factory, which is a multi-million pound purpose-designed hub for Performing Arts and Media students, housing rehearsal rooms, theatres for public performances, recording studios, dance studios, a television studio, a film and photographic studio, and Mac and PC computer suites.
Media Practice courses include our award-winning Animation degree which will help you develop the technical expertise you need to create your own film. Photography at UCLan is distinctive in that you will learn both ‘wet’ (film) and ‘dry’ (digital) techniques with a clear emphasis on the vocational. Screenwriting has strong links with industry and you will meet, and work with, professional writers, directors and producers. With Creative Skillset accreditation, Film Production allows you to develop both personal creative expression and real-world skills; it also offers you the opportunity to produce your own full feature film.
Our Media Technology courses will enable you to experience practical content production and cutting-edge technologies, working hands-on to real-life working briefs. Courses include the multi-disciplined Media Production; TV Production which aims to produce the television programme-makers of the future; Web Design and Development which is ideal for the technically-minded and creative; Digital Visual Effects which equips you with the skills to work in all areas of digital effects production; and Games Design which will have you designing and developing games from the start.
In Performance, Acting has Drama UK Recognition Status; Dance Performance and Teaching has strong links with leading professional dance practitioners; Music will expand and extend your skills in creating original music; Music Production holds important accreditation through JAMES; Music Theatre combines the benefits of conservatoire training with practical experience; and Theatre enables our students to work alongside national and international artists.
