Lancashire Forensic Science Academy

Lancashire Constabulary and UCLan’s School of Forensic and Applied Sciences have joined forces to create the Lancashire Forensic Science Academy.

In the first collaboration of its kind, CSIs, forensic science experts, academics and students benefit from shared expertise whilst working alongside each other in purpose-built facilities to research, investigate and deliver forensic science services in Lancashire.

The collaboration is part of Lancashire Constabulary’s commitment to innovation and is supported by a multi-million pound investment from UCLan to improve and enhance its forensic science department as part of the new venture.

WHAT WILL THIS MEAN FOR OUR STUDENTS?

This ground-breaking partnership gives students access to an operational environment.

During their studies with us, students in the field of forensic science will have the opportunity for:

CSI WORK SHADOWING

CSI WORK SHADOWING

Undergraduate students will have the opportunity to shadow crime scene investigators as they conduct their work.

I personally believe that this opportunity is a once in a lifetime and can also give guidance if you are unsure on what career you would like to pursue.

Nia Bassral, BSc (Hons) Forensic Science & Criminal Investigation
CSI shadowing with Lancashire Constabulary

I enjoyed the shadowing a lot, it was great! For someone like me who is a little bit older, it’s a bit different for me coming to University. I miss working so to get the opportunity to get out and be on the ground, I really enjoyed it..

David Green, BSc (Hons) Forensic Science & Criminal Investigation
CSI shadowing with Lancashire Constabulary

I absolutely loved the shadowing. It made me realise just what it will be like once I finish my degree. I really learnt about what CSIs do and how they work. I’d do it again in a heartbeat I loved it that much.

Emily Hudson, BSc (Hons) Forensic Science & Criminal Investigation
CSI shadowing with Lancashire Constabulary

RESEARCH DISSERTATIONS AND PROJECTS

Undertake live projects linked to ongoing work of the Lancashire Forensic Science Academy in purpose built laboratories.

Conducting research at the Lancashire Constabulary was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I learned a lot and have benefited enormously. These kind of opportunities are extremely beneficial as you have the opportunity to experience a research environment with the supervision of experienced practitioners who can guide and support whilst providing useful advice.
