An enormous variety of teaching opportunities exist across the learning and skills sector, in further education colleges, sixth forms, adult and community learning, the National Health Service, the prison service, the police service and in private sector training organisations.
Teaching is a challenging but rewarding profession, one where you will use your enthusiasm and talents to really make a difference to your students’ lives. Our courses will equip you to educate and influence your learners and help them fulfil their potential.
The UCLan Teacher Education Partnership offers you the exciting opportunity to study in one of 14 colleges across the North West region and gain a PGCE or Certificate in Education for the 16+ age group. You can study full or part time and we also offer shorter certificate and ‘taster’ courses.
You will be undertaking the programme at a franchised college centre with highly experienced teacher educators. You will also be enrolled as a student at the University of Central Lancashire and have the same entitlements as a student attending the University’s Preston Campus including access to the Library and Learning Resources Service, Student Services, Student Loans and membership of the Student Union.
UCLan’s Teacher Education partnership is very significant regionally as it supplies qualified teachers for the 14+ sector across much of the North West. In some colleges, teachers trained on UCLan programmes make up a large proportion of the workforce, and evidence from colleges shows that these teachers are of a high quality and are instrumental in enhancing the learning of many students.
Ofsted also recognises that colleges with UCLan Teacher Education programmes are generally at least ‘good’, if not ‘outstanding’, and that this is due at least in part to the quality of training that teachers have received, and also to the ongoing professional development on teaching and learning which is led in many colleges by the teacher training team. Ofsted also graded the UCLan Teacher Education programmes as ‘good’ in 2015.
PGCE AND CERT ED

Course are available on full time and part time routes. Please see the course pages for details of the courses available at each college.
Whilst these are not school teaching qualifications there are employment opportunities, particularly for teachers of vocational subjects, in some schools as well as many opportunities in the traditional further education sector of colleges, sixth forms and training providers.
Both courses are full teaching qualifications that meet the requirements of the professional standards.
Our range of three part-time introductory courses offers a starting point for everyone, whether you just want to find out more about teaching (Preparatory Certificate) or already work as a teacher but do not need a full teaching qualification (Introductory Certificate, Intermediate Certificate).
These programmes offer a sound introduction to teaching, giving you an integrated overview of the theory and practice of teaching.
