Prison and Offender Research in Social Care and Health

The Prison and Offender Research in Social Care and Health (North East, Yorkshire and Humberside) Evaluation was in collaboration with colleagues at the University of the West of England. The University of Central Lancashire's Healthy & Sustainable Settings Unit led the Prison Health Research Network (PHRN)’s Public Health Workstream.

This evaluation was commissioned by the Prison Health Research Network and aims to evaluate the developmental activity of the PHRN’s North East Hub – exploring what developmental activity has been carried out by the Prison Health Research Network’s North East Hub and how effective it has been.

Using a self-reporting questionnaire and focus group research, the objectives of the project were:

  • To scope and report on the developmental activity of the Prison Health Research Network’s NE Hub.
  • To carry out an inclusive consultative process with the NE Hub Steering Group and other stakeholders.
  • To liaise between the Prison Health Research Network, the Department of Health: Prison Health and the NE PHRN Hub to ensure involvement and collaboration, and to maximise synergy.
  • To present findings in the form of an action-focused development report.
