Marx at the Movies Forum
Marx at the Movies Forum was founded in 2011 by Ewa Mazierska and Lars Kristensen (University of Skovde in Sweden), whose purpose is debating the interface between Marxism and all forms of the moving image, such as film, video and computer games.
It organised two conferences at the University of Central Lancashire, in 2012 and 2015, attended by academics, students, and filmmakers, including the renowned Yugoslav director Želimir Žilnik. Among its fruit are three edited collections, devoted to different aspects of Marxism:
Marx at the Movies: Revisiting History, Theory and Practice (edited by Ewa Mazierska and Lars Kristensen, Palgrave Macmillan, 2014)
Marxism and Film Activism: Screening Alternative Worlds (edited by Ewa Mazierska and Lars Kristensen, Berghahn, 2015)
Red Alert: Marxist Approaches to Science Fiction Cinema (edited by Ewa Mazierska and Alfredo Suppia, Wayne State University Press, 2016)
Contemporary Cinema and Neoliberal Ideology (edited by Ewa Mazierska and Lars Kristensen, Routledge, 2017)
Mazierska and Kristensen also edited ‘Journal of Gaming and Virtual Worlds (2016), devoted to Marxism and computer games’.
