Learn about the world of fabrication of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical products, enhancing your skill-set and employability.

Our MSc Industrial Pharmaceutics has been designed specifically to give you the chance to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to join the formulation world.

You’ll develop a foundation of knowledge in pharmaceutical formulation design and manufacture, and learn about the importance of nanotechnology and forefront developments, such as personalised medication.

You will have placements where you'll get the opportunity to go into industry and learn about the process of drug manufacturing. In addition, you'll get an insight into industry from guest speakers who have vast amounts of experience and knowledge to share.

As well as all of this, you will gain an oversight of related industries (eg cosmetics and herbal), with an emphasis on business and management.

What you'll do

You’ll attend a series of lectures, seminars and practical sessions through which you'll acquire knowledge about pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical formulations, such as cosmetics and herbal medications.
Our facilities have excellent equipment that will help you to learn all the basics and advanced formulation aspects. In addition, your tutors either have vast amounts of industry experience or they are research active with lots of publications to help support your learning and give you the best education experience possible.
On this course you'll be taught by experts within their field. This means you'll have all the skills you need to prepare you for a future in industrial pharmaceuticals. The course uses assessment strategy to simulate real-life scenarios which will enhance the experience and prepare you for job interviews and boost your employability.

Following the pandemic, we have found that some courses benefit from a blended learning and teaching approach. Therefore, the majority of your teaching will be face-to-face on campus aside from a small amount of online teaching where we have learnt it works best.

Future Careers in Industrial Pharmaceutics

MSc Industrial Pharmaceutics is designed to help you get your ‘foot in the door’ in industry as a formulation scientist or formulation development scientist. Additionally, this course can also provide you with the skills and knowledge that you need to pursue a career in research and development.

Formulation Scientist in Pharmaceutical Industries	Many of our graduates continue their career path as a formulation scientist in one of the pharmaceutical companies around the UK or worldwide. Some of our students are currently working with AstraZeneca, GSK, Rosemont, Wockhardt, Quays Pharmaceuticals, and others. You will be working to develop and monitor the formulation of various dosage forms such as solutions, suspensions, tablets, capsules, etc.
Formulation Scientist in Non-Pharmaceutical Companies	You can join some of the companies that produce herbal formulations, supplements, vitamins, nutrients, and more. Your job will be to prepare a suitable formulation based on the skills you learn on the MSc course, such as preparing protein shakes using biological formulation skills that you obtained through the course.
Quality Control and Quality Assurance	You can work in the quality and analysis department for pharmaceutical or non-pharmaceutical industries, analysing their preparation to ensure that it complies with the rules and regulations. One of our graduates is currently working in a vitamin manufacturing facility.
Teaching and Academia	You may want to pursue a career in academia and look into teaching. A couple of our graduates have found jobs in academia and are now members of staff in overseas universities.
Further Education	Studying on this course will give you all the information and flavour you need if you decide to pursue further education and do a PhD in one of the topics that you studied or another area of interest. Some of our graduates have obtained a PhD from UCLan and continued to further their career in education or research.
Research and Development	You can work in the R&D department for pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical industries to develop new formulations for newly-discovered medications. You will be studying the risk and benefit of each formulations and will assess the suitability of each.
