Project title: South Asian female victims of intrafamilial sexual abuse: The impact of intergenerational trauma, hypermasculinity, and collectivist cultural beliefs on cognitive dissonance

My research project aims to provide reliable information on the prevalence of Intrafamilial Sexual Abuse (IFSA) within British South Asian communities and the psychological factors associated with cognitive dissonance. The project also aims to identify culturally specific factors that in combination act as barriers for South Asian women who experience IFSA and how this is reconciled for those that were able to seek support. This will allow exploration of approaches to providing effective support whilst considering these cultural barriers and how professionals can utilise this when supporting female South Asian victims of IFSA.
