Why study with us
- You’ll have access to our Cognitive Psychology Complex (CPC), which comprises facilities for eye tracking, decision making, reasoning, perception and attention research.
- We also have laboratories for forensic psychology research, including EvoFIT, our innovative and award-winning composite construction system for eye witness testimony research, based at our Preston Campus.
- Other key facilities include our Brain Imaging Laboratory (BIL), used to measure and assess brain activity, and our Child Observation Suite (COS), used for research into children’s behaviour.
What you'll do
- We hold an annual Psychology Postgraduate Research Conference, where you’ll be able to gain a wider understanding of the research going on across the school and share your own research with others.
- Take advantage of the comprehensive training programme to develop your professional and research skills. This includes grant writing, public engagement and working with a PhD in industry events.
- Receive regular support in your development from a Director of Studies, other supervisors and two Research Degree Tutors. They will all work with you to ensure your development and successful completion of the research programme.

Kat is a Chartered Psychologist who has developed a keen interest in the area of educational and child Psychology. She is a dedicated advocate for children’s rights and is eager to document and shine a light on children’s voices.
There are three broad research groups within the school:
- The Cognition and Neuroscience Research Group
- The Forensic Research Group
- The Quality of Life Research Group
All of them are engaged in leading research within the field of psychology.
