Plan your day

It's always important to get ahead of the game and plan your time when attending Open Days. If you're planning to attend one of our on-campus events, you're also welcome to join our Virtual Open Days as well, to get a feel for the campus and course before you arrive. Read our top tips below to find out more.

On the day you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Delve deeper into your chosen subject area or chosen career
  • Speak to expert subject tutors and ask all your burning questions
  • Chat to current students and find out about their experiences first-hand.
  • Find out more about student support and how we can support your learning experience
  • Chat to our specialist teams from accommodation to careers
  • Get expert advice on writing your personal statement
  • Explore our campuses and state-of-the-art facilities on our student led tours
  • Visit accommodation and get all the information you need

Plus, we'll be talking to you about all the great reasons to study with us, and about the local area, depending on whether you're choosing to study at Preston, Burnley or Westlakes.

  • Ahead of the day, download the programme before you arrive so you can plan everything you want to see. The programmes will be listed on our website closer to the event and we'll send it over via email.
  • Also, create a shortlist of courses and mark the subject talks in your programme along with any timings - remember to plan in general talks, tours and some time for lunch and a general look around!
  • Before the day, have a think if there's anything in particular you want to know about, and make a note to speak to someone - whether that's a current student, a tutor or one our our support teams, we're here to help with any queries, however big or small.
  • Feel free to bring friends or family along on the day to get a different perspective and viewpoint. Just register any additional guests at the time of booking
  • We'll be sending out more information about the day via email, including details on how we'll be keeping you safe in a COVID world, so check your inbox (and junk folders) regularly for more info!
  • Finally, remember to enjoy the day, soak up the atmosphere and get a real feel for the course, campus and people. We want you to feel confident in your choice of uni and we're here to help you every step of the way.

With this in mind, we will have a number of safety measures in place that all attendees must follow:

  • You should only attend with a maximum of two additional guests.
  • You’ll find your pre-booked arrival time (9am or 1pm) on your Open Day confirmation email. We’d be grateful if you could stick as closely as possible to this arrival time, to help us manage capacity at the event.
  • We will be following 2m social distancing at this event, please allow 2m between your group and other visitors and event staff at all times.
  • Please follow directional signs and any one way routes.
  • We will have queuing systems in place managed by our friendly staff. You may have to wait a few minutes to access an area, please be patient.
  • Please regularly wash or sanitise your hands. There will be hand sanitiser stations across campus.

We will also be doing the following to make your visit as safe as possible:

  • Our event team will monitor social distancing across all event venues.
  • Rigorous cleaning system – venues will be regularly cleaned.
  • An extensive risk assessment will be undertaken ahead of the event.

Please do not attend the Open Day if you have symptoms of Covid-19 or have been advised to self-isolate on the event date.

We will be following Government guidance for the event and will keep you informed nearer the time if there are further health and safety requirements on the day.
