New students start their University lives at UCLan
New arrivals at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) have enjoyed a fun-filled warm welcome to life in Preston.
While the students collected the keys to their halls of residence on Sunday, entertainment was provided in the form of Titan the Robot, a comedy string quartet, magicians, musicians, balloon modellers and stilt walkers.
The fun continued into the evening in the Students’ Union where the newcomers took part in an array of events including indoor kayaking, ultimate dodgeball, bungee runs, table tennis and a dance off.
Lee Mac, the UCLan Students’ Union President, said: “We’re delighted with how successful the Welcome Weekend has been. The assortment of activities on offer during the day meant our new students and their families could join in the fun together. The evening events proved very popular as the new intake came together, got to know about the University and started to make what will become life-long friends.”
Around 6,000 undergraduates, postgraduates, foundation and part-time students will study at UCLan during the 2014-15 academic year. They will take part in a plethora of activities during Welcome Week, which starts on 15 September, before teaching starts on 22 September.
