A University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) academic has been recognised for his service to education in the British Muslim Awards.

Mohamed Parker is a finalist in the Services to Education category, which acknowledges the achievements of people who showcase valuable work and innovation across British classrooms.

The Principal Lecturer from the Lancashire School of Business and Enterprise said: “I was very surprised but also really thrilled when I found out that I was one of the finalists.

“Having worked at UCLan for almost 10 years, it’s great to see all of my hard work paying off and I’m really looking forward to the awards ceremony at the end of the month.”

"Mohamed Parker has been nominated by members of the public who think he deserves to receive an award and must be recognised for his achievements."

The 50-year-old, originally from Cape Town, South Africa came to the UK in 2002 to study at UCLan. After completing his degree in BA (hons) Accounting and Business, Mohamed joined the University as an academic.

The British Muslim Awards, organised by Oceanic Consulting, are now in their sixth year and aim to recognise a wide range of achievements, which cover various aspects of society including business, charity, sport, arts and culture.

A company spokesperson commented: “Mohamed Parker has been nominated by members of the public who think he deserves to receive an award and must be recognised for his achievements.

“Oceanic Consulting would like to congratulate Mohamed for his nomination and wish him good luck at the ceremony.”

The prestigious awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday 31 January at the Bradford Hotel in Bradford. The evening will celebrate and showcase the determination, hard work, personal and commercial achievements of the British Muslim community.
