Final year acting students to perform Shakespeare's The Winter’s Tale

One of William Shakespeare’s most extraordinary plays is being brought to the stage in Preston.

Third year BA (Hons) Acting students, from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), are performing The Winter’s Tale between 21 and 24 February.

Part tragedy and part comedy, The Winter’s Tale brings jealousy, romance and wonder to the audience.  We witness King Leontes’ jealousy dragging him and his court to the brink of despair.  A baby girl is abandoned to the wild and all seems lost, until she is found by a wandering shepherd. And so begins a new story, a comic and wonderful journey to redemption.

"This is an ideal opportunity to come and see the next generation of talent offer their take on a rarely performed classic."

The Winter’s Tale is taking place in UCLan’s St Peter’s Arts Centre between 21 and 24 February at 7.00pm, with matinees at 2.00pm from 22 to 24 February.

Director Joe Sumsion, who recently joined UCLan after nine years as Artistic Director of The Dukes in Lancaster, said: “This intimate and accessible production is a rare opportunity to see high quality, large cast professional standard Shakespeare in the region. It’s a wonderful play and the quality of our third year students is fantastic.  This is an ideal opportunity to come and see the next generation of talent offer their take on a rarely performed classic.”

Tickets, costing £10 and £5 concessions, are available to buy via Ticket Source.
