Sixth form pupils take part in University’s history workshop

East Lancashire college pupils were among those who attended a special Holocaust event at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).

Students from Burnley and Blackburn colleges visited UCLan’s Preston Campus to take part in the educational workshop.

The sixth formers, who were joined by students from Southport College, were given a presentation and took part in group discussions about the genocide of six million Jews by the Nazi regime.

Victoria Blacklock, a second year history student from Burnley College, said: “It was a really interesting and informative event. I’ve studied the subject at school and college but this workshop really pushed me to think more about the Holocaust and what the ideas were around it.”

Dr Clare Copley, Lecturer in Modern European History, led the session. She added: “Our history students wanted to do something to mark Holocaust Memorial Day and we thought inviting local sixth form pupils into the University was a good idea.

“Our focus was looking at the power of words used during this time and the college students had a thirst for knowledge and were very receptive to the discussions we had.”
