2018 Commonwealth Games

UCLan in the Gold Coast

The University of Central Lancashire will be well represented at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games with some of our students, staff and Honorary Fellows taking part in the games or acting as coaches and physiotherapists to the athletes. Officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games, 71 Commonwealth teams will be competing in 275 events over 19 different sports on Australia’s Gold Coast.

UCLan lecturer, Rob Hamilton, will spend four weeks with the England Squad in Australia as a physiotherapist, with key responsibilities for wrestling, squash and netball.

Helen Clitheroe

Helen will take on the role of Athletics Coach at the Gold Coast 2018 Games. She is the current European Indoor Champion for the 3000m and is recognised as an Honorary Fellow for her contribution to British middle and long-distance running.

Don Parker

Don is a UCLan Honorary Fellow and International Table Tennis player who has represented England over 200 times. He joined the Commonwealth Games in 1997 and will take on the role of Sports Director for Team England at the 2018 Games.
