University hosts second Colour Fun run at UCLan Sports Arena
All the colours of the rainbow were out in force at the weekend when the University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) Colour Fun run took place for the second year in a row.
More than 450 people took part in the five kilometre run which saw participants young and old race around UCLan Sports Arena while being showered with brightly coloured powder along the route.
The idea behind the event is to encourage people of all running abilities to have fun and get active at the same time. The Arena also donated £1,000 from the event’s registration fees to cancer charity Marie Curie with runners raising additional funds individually.
Organiser of the event and UCLan Sports Motivator Sam Cadwallader said: “We’re hugely proud of the UCLan Colour Fun run which attracted even more runners this year. I want to say a massive thank you to all of the staff, volunteers, local groups and business involved in making it such a success. It’s all about inspiring people to get active and feel energized while also having fun. Being able to raise so much money for Marie Curie is amazing and I just hope we can do it again next year.”
Marie Curie Community Fundraiser for Lancashire Katherine Howell commented: “On behalf of Marie Curie I would like to thank the team at UCLan for all their hard work and dedication to making the event successful. Everyone who attended on the day seemed to love every minute and it was great to see so many people come along to support UCLan and Marie Curie.
“All the money raised from the Colour Fun run will help Marie Curie provide expert care, guidance and support to help people with a terminal illness, and their families, get the most from the time they have left.
“Locally, Marie Curie nurses work night and day in people’s homes across Lancashire providing hands-on care and vital emotional support. Seven out of 10 carers say that people with a terminal illness do not get all the care and support they need. As the UK’s leading charity for people living with any terminal illness, and their families, Marie Curie doesn’t think that is good enough and that is why your support is so important to us. Thank you.”
The event received positive reviews on social media. One runner tweeted: “Do I have to wash this off? Life's much better when you're rainbow coloured.” Another wrote: “Amazing day! I wish every run was as fun.”
