Cash for Kids benefits from five-a-side event

Preston’s amateur footballers have teamed up with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and used their fancy footwork skills to raise money for a local charity.

The newly formed five-a-side men’s football league at UCLan Sports Arena raised £240 for the Cash for Kids charity which funds initiatives to help abused, sick, vulnerable and disabled children in the local area.

Each of the twelve teams that took part paid £20 to enter the tournament with the full fee going to the charity.

Organiser Shiva Omidvar-Tehrani from UCLan Sports Arena commented: “The event was a great success; we were able to host an exciting and competitive tournament and at the same time raise funds for a very worthy local charity.”

A group stage followed by a knock-out round saw team Halifax crowned the eventual winners. Prizes were free haircuts at Cartmel Barbers for the winners and a VIP package at Evoke Nightclub. The Ancient Oak Pub provided food for all involved after the tournament.

UCLan runs weekly men and women’s five-a-side football leagues at UCLan Sports Arena. For more information contact Shiva on 01772 761000.
