Award-winning band Transition to help UCLan celebrate 10 years of Confucius

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Confucius Institute by welcoming an award-winning band to Preston.

Transition is a British band that sings in Mandarin and has a huge fan base in China, with millions of follower on YouTube.  The band will perform at UCLan’s Venue 53 on Tuesday 27 February to celebrate a decade of the UCLan Confucius Institute, which was established in 2008 to promote Chinese culture and language in the local community.

UCLan Confucius Institute Director Feixia Yu said: “Since it was launched in 2008 the UCLan Confucius Institute has brought many activities to Lancashire that have broadened the cultural landscape.

“We are very excited about Transition coming to play in Preston to help us to celebrate this momentous occasion for the Institute. The band originates from Bristol but has achieved great success in China.  Hopefully it will act as a huge inspiration to our students, showing that language learning can really pay off.”

In 2012 Transition was given the honour of writing the official theme song for the Taiwanese Olympic team at the London 2012 Games, becoming the first ever foreign band to be given this opportunity.  The band’s first Mandarin song, ʻSorry my Chinese isnʼt so goodʼ, became an overnight YouTube hit and is now an anthem for all foreigners learning Chinese.

Tickets for the gig are available from Ticket Source for £5 and doors open at 7.30pm.
