Thousands of undergraduates and postgraduates have arrived to start life as UCLan students

Thousands of new University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) students have arrived to start their new lives in Preston.

Despite the damp conditions, a range of entertainment acts greeted the new arrivals as they collected the keys and moved into their halls of residence on Sunday.

Circus acts, bands and a DJ were among the entertainment acts who performed throughout the day while help to move their worldly possessions into their rooms came from a variety of sources including the University’s dodgeball, kung-fu, trampolining, fencing, American football and netball teams.

In the evening, the Students’ Union (SU) welcomed the newcomers with a range of events including live music, games, inflatables and a barbeque.

Dr Lynne Livesey, Interim Vice-Chancellor, said: “Welcome Sunday signifies the start of a thrilling new chapter in the lives of our new students. It is always an exciting yet emotional day for them and their families, but it was great to hear how our dedicated staff and student volunteers made the day so memorable for all.”

Activities during the upcoming Welcome Week include free welcome meals to help students make friends, the popular SU Freshers Fair, Societies Fair, Sports Fair and Market Day. There will also be a fun event at UCLan Sports Arena on 21 September before teaching then starts on 23 September.
