The University of Central Lancashire is seeking to appoint a Supporting Muslim Chaplain to assist our head Imam, specifically relating to the organisation, setting, and leading of both Friday Prayers.
Working with our head Imam, they will be required to prepare the prayer facility, welcoming students and staff and directing them to the venue. The Supporting Chaplain will deliver the sermon in Arabic and English and conclude with the prayers. The Supporting Chaplain will also be expected to have a presence before and after Friday prayers to provide pastoral and spiritual support for staff and students.
Significant experience of leading prayers, addressing large audiences and the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff is essential. Applicants must be qualified to offer the Universally authoritative guidance on a range of perspectives held by their faith community on current social or political issues and have completed a full Islamic Theology Degree (Aalimiyyah) from a reputable Islamic Institute and be able to recite the Noble Qur’an according to the laws of Tajweed.
The post holder will work collaboratively with the wider Chaplaincy team in fostering an environment of mutual respect, tolerance and understanding. The Chaplaincy team is based at the Oasis Faith and Spirituality Centre and is part of UCLan’s Student Services.
The post holder will need to be flexible in terms of working hours to support the service. The normal working pattern for this post will be Fridays, 13:00-15:00 in summer and 12:00-14:00 in winter. Additionally, they must be flexible and be able to work out of office hours if required (e.g. Friday Prayers during holidays, etc.).
