We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join the Lancashire Clinical Trials Unit. The aim of the post is to take a leading role in the design, management, analysis, interpretation and reporting of randomised controlled trials and other well-designed studies in health within Lancashire CTU and the wider University. To enhance own area of research consistent with the AHRh’s research strategy and contribute to the Research Excellence Framework submission. To initiate future research and make a major contribution to the performance management of ongoing clinical trials and other research projects. To ensure impact, public output and future grant acquisition. To undertake statistical, methodological and applied clinical trials research to the highest regulatory standards. To lead modules, teach and supervise research students within Lancashire CTU and AHRh.

The post holder will have experience in the design and analysis of randomised controlled trials, extensive experience of undertaking statistical research and experience in applied statistics consultancy.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in statistics, medical statistics, epidemiology or related subject (or extensive professional experience of equivalent postgraduate standard and duration), a higher education teaching qualification (or willingness to undertake University teaching qualification on appointment) and formal training in statistics at degree or postgraduate level.

The post holder will have excellent IT skills particularly in MS Office software (Word, Excel, etc.) and competent use of databases, be competent in at least one relevant statistical software package (e.g. Stata, SPSS, R, etc.) as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team on research, development and teaching.

Self-motivated with the ability to motivate others, you will be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines as well as the ability to plan, to prioritise competing demands, and to organise own workload and those of junior colleagues.
