An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and enthusiastic individual to join our Governance Team in the role of Governance Support Assistant.

This important role provides an opportunity to gain a broad understanding of the way the University operates and to make a significant contribution to supporting governance processes.

The Governance Team supports the effective functioning, development and enhancement of the governance framework of the University to ensure good governance and decision making and oversees the University’s response to its internal and external governance-related regulatory responsibilities.

You will provide direct support for the efficient and appropriate management of the University’s decision-making processes through:

  • Working closely with the team and other University staff to provide corporate governance support to the University.
  • Assisting with University Board/Committee meetings and subsidiary companies in conjunction with senior managers.
  • Preparation of agendas and supporting documents.
  • Learning/maintaining a solid understanding of the national governance framework with which the University operates.

The postholder should have a good standard of education with minimum qualifications at GCSE level in Maths and English, or equivalent qualification or relevant experience and relevant professional experience together with excellent written and communication skills and a proactive and flexible approach. You will provide support to the effective functioning, development and enhancement of the governance framework of the University to ensure good governance and decision making.

You will work in the Governance Team and with other University senior staff to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of business through the University Board, its Committees and subsidiary companies. You will also be supported to have the opportunity for career development within the team.

Key elements of the role will be experience of organising meetings, preparing document bundles and taking minutes etc. Accordingly, an ability to organise, prioritise work, meet strict deadlines and work under pressure with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail is therefore important. An understanding of IT support systems is also highly desirable.
