The Strategic Data and Policy Insight team play a central role within the University, facilitating an understanding of institutional data, HE policy and performance. Through data analysis and commentary, the team provides insight for university decision making in order to help delivery of the new strategy.

As part of a new service within the wider team, we are looking for someone who can support the University’s data requirements through extraction, manipulation and presentation of data, using the University’s databases and reporting tools.

The role holder will need to demonstrate the willingness and ability to become a skilled data report writer. Existing experience with SSRS, Excel, SQL etc would be advantageous, but there will be opportunities to develop these skills for someone with a positive and ambitious work ethic who wanted to learn. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the team’s data visualisation work.

A key requirement of the role will be working with others to understand the nature of their data requirements, and responding in a helpful way that allows access to clear management information and strategic data. Additionally, the role holder will work collaboratively within the team and with other departments to ensure that the databases holding the data are fit for purpose, and will be part of the University’s ongoing effort to improve data governance.

An honours degree or equivalent, in a discipline relevant to data reporting and analysis is essential, as is experience in producing data for management information, working with requestors to scope requirements. The successful applicant will be a Skilled SSRS report writer with the ability to write T-SQL queries, an advanced user of Microsoft Excel and confident in using SharePoint libraries. They will be able to self-manage, work under pressure to completing deadlines and be able to prioritise a demanding workload.
