Our international partnerships encompass staff and student interchange, transnational (in-country) education programmes, linked (articulated) programmes, collaborative research, e-learning, knowledge transfer and joint project ventures.
The University of Central Lancashire, Mauritius, held a celebratory cocktail in Ebene on Thursday 26 January 2017. A gathering of all the relevant stakeholders of the institution, it was an opportunity for Judith Willis, academic head of the Mauritian branch, to guarantee more growth in the coming years and to celebrate their achievements in the island.
Scholarships of £500 each have been awarded for 10 students studying on UCLan programmes at UoM Enterprise in the academic year 2016/17, to date. These are awarded by UCLan for academic excellence and potential contribution to their future workplace and wider society, as demonstrated on their application forms.

The President of Mauritius, Dr Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, visited UCLan in Mauritius in October 2015 for a Women and Science event organised by the Women in Networking (WIN) group, which promotes equality for women in Mauritius. 120 delegates attended the question and answer event to hear her Excellency discuss her experiences as an academic and entrepreneur within the science field. The President took the opportunity to express her support in promoting women in science within Mauritius and the African continent.

Students’ Mortarboard Celebration!
On 15 December 2016, the Awards Ceremony took place for students studying UCLan’s programmes in International Business Law (LLM), Financial and Commercial Law (LLM), MSc Project Management and MSc Construction Project Management. This prestigious event took place at the campus of UoM (University of Mauritius) and was officiated by Liz Bromley, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Corporate Planning and International Strategy, supported by Tim Steele, Executive Director of International Strategy and Partnerships, and Judith Willis, Academic Head UCLan-UOM Enterprise Ltd. In attendance were Hon Justice David Chan Kan Cheong; Mr Jonathan Drew, British High Commissioner to the Republic of Mauritius; Claudia Garland, Deputy High Commissioner; and Tris Bartlett, Country Director, British Council. Around 50 students attended the event together with their friends and family to celebrate their achievements after all their hard work.

Graduates of the LLM International Business Law
The third graduation ceremony for UCLan and UOM Enterprise was held on Thursday 18th July 2015 at The University of Mauritius, with 21 students graduating from the LLM International Business Law programme. The graduation ceremony was attended by The Chancellor of the University of Mauritius Dr Jean Claude Autry, the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the UOM Trust Mr Preeaduth Chitamun, the previous year’s honorary fellow Chief Justice, Honourable Kheshoe Parsad Matadeen, and many judges from the Supreme Court including Justice Satyabhooshun Gupt Domah. Miss Ramsurrun Manika Priyanka was given the award for UCLan’s outstanding performance whilst studying for her LLM International Business Law Programme.

Mrs Justice Ah Foon Chui Yew Cheong, Puisne Judge to the Supreme Court of Mauritius, was awarded an Honorary Fellowship for her contribution to the Mauritian judicial system and her work with UCLan developing CPD opportunities. Mrs Justice Cheong hosted a group of UCLan Preston law students in March 2015 when they visited Mauritius to work with UCLan students studying in Mauritius.

The British High Commissioner, Jonathan Drew, giving a talk to UCLan in Mauritius LLB (Hons) students
The British High Commissioner, Jonathan Drew, visited UCLan in Mauritius in October 2015 to deliver a talk and share his personal experiences on the relationship between law and diplomacy to the first and second year LLB (Hons) Law students. During a Q & A session, students had the opportunity to discuss issues regarding diplomacy that Mauritius is experiencing, such as the Chagos Islands debate, with the High Commissioner.

Both Hebei University and the University of Central Lancashire created the joint non-independent status HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communications and Creative Industries.
The joint school is located at Hebei University campus in Baoding, Hebei Province, China in a building specifically allocated to this collaboration. Baoding is approximately 36 minutes by fast train from Beijing and is fast becoming a commuter base for those working in Beijing.
Both institutions worked continuously over 24 months to gain the Chinese Ministry of Education approval and with their official consent, the first cohort of students started in September 2014.
The joint school can accommodate up to 800 students when at full capacity. The programmes which are offered and delivered there are:-

There is a complement of staff based at HBU-UCLan throughout the academic year including the Academic Head who supports the joint school and staff based there. CityU-SCOPE is a world-leading institution and is UCLan’s longest standing partner in Hong Kong, with over 400 students on courses in disciplines related to Fire and Languages. The development of UCLan’s Fire courses in Hong Kong meets the needs of the Hong Kong Fire Services Authority, providing Foundation through to Masters course provision.
Collaboration is with the Schools of Engineering; Forensic and Applied Sciences; and Journalism, Language and Communication.
Dr Louis Ma, Director, City University of Hong Kong - School of Continuing and Professional Education
Dr. Louis Ma is the Acting Director of the School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) of the City University of Hong Kong. He provides leadership to over 200 full-time staff (including 60 academic staff in four Academic Sections: Business & Management, Arts & Communication, Science & Technology, and Social & Human Sciences) and over 400 part-time teaching staff. From 1997 to 2012, Dr. Ma had served CityU in various capacities, including Acting Head of the Department of Information Systems and Assistant Dean (Assurance of Learning) in the College of Business. Dr. Ma has successfully participated in the validation of numerous programs and college accreditation, including AACSB International and EQUIS as well as in program accreditation by HKCAAVQ.

UCLan forged its first collaboration in China with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in 1986 and in 2012 celebrated 25 years’ partnership.
Pathways leading to final year of UCLan courses of:-
There are currently more than 250 students studying towards these programmes in-country, but the partnership to date has seen over 1000 students successfully progress to UCLan to study for their Bachelor degree. Over 300 have also continued to study for postgraduate qualifications at UCLan, whilst more than 100 visiting scholars (or secondees) have visited UCLan to undertake research and further studies.
Collaboration is with the School of Business and the School of Journalism, Language and Communication.
Visiting scholars from GDUFS come to UCLan every semester for professional development purposes, undertaking research, observing teaching and taking higher qualifications. UCLan welcomes up to four scholars (or secondees) each semester, hosted by its Schools, with more than 100 secondees benefitting to date from this cultural exchange opportunity.In November 2015, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies celebrated its 50th anniversary. Celebratory events were organised on the Guangzhou campus which were attended by the Deputy Chair of the University Board, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Director of International Partnerships and key College representatives. UCLan and GDUFS first had discussions on potential collaboration in 1986. At the time of UCLan celebrating its 20th anniversary (of University status) in 2012, UCLan hosted an International Symposium, 'The Global Student Experience' which discussed the ways in which universities are responding to the internationalisation agenda whilst providing a superlative student experience, with an international dimension. Professor Zhong Weihe, President of GDUFS, was a keynote speaker at the Symposium. Also during the Symposium, UCLan celebrated the 20 years of course collaboration with GDUFS. In 2014, the International College (where UCLan’s programmes are located) celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Hongxia Chen, Deputy Director of News Center, from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangzhou, visited UCLan from February to May in 2013. This is what she had to say about her time spent at UCLan; ““UCLan is a university dedicated to internationalization. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at UCLan where I broadened my experience, acquired knowledge, and developed valuable friendships.”
Julia Ge, visited UCLan from March to August 2012 and had the following to say about her time spent at UCLan; “I have a great memory of UCLAN, including the beautiful campus and the extremely warm-hearted and helpful staff. These five months is the most memorable time in my whole life. With the kind help of Karen, the chief of the international office and Dr Michele Milner, my academic contact, I could attend many interesting courses not only in the School of Language and International Studies, but other schools like School of School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and School of Journalism and Media.”
President Zhong Weihe was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in June 2011 for his outstanding contribution to the development and internationalisation of higher education between GDUFS and UCLan.
Peter Chen, the former Dean of the International College of GDUS and now Vice-President, was awarded an Honorary Fellowship in June 2008 for his contribution to the development of higher education in Guangdong Province through GDUFS.
The UCLan-GDUFS Awards ceremony took place on 25 June 2015 and saw over 160 diplomates graduate from the cooperative programmes in International Business Communication, International Business and International Journalism.
UCLan has enjoyed a very successful relationship with Hong Kong College of Technology since 2005, when an Institutional Agreement confirming the institutions’ intention to work together was signed.

This is one of UCLan’s longstanding partners, with the collaborative relationship having commenced in 2000 for the delivery of unique undergraduate degree courses in Fire Safety Engineering, Well Engineering, Facilities Management and Health, Safety and Environmental Management.
An annual awards ceremony is held in Muscat in January each year. In January 2016, a new five-year contract was signed with the partner to extend the collaboration.

Sheetal Muralidhara - Best Graduate Award
Sheetal is an exceptional student who has consistently produced outstanding academic results throughout her diploma and degree studies at NAFA. Originality and poetry form the main elements in her design thoughts, and she made no hesitation to pursue her studies in BA (Hons) Spatial Design at NAFA immediately after graduating from her diploma in 3D Design (Environmental Design).
Sheetal is a driven individual who exudes integrity and confidence in her pursuits. She is passionate and possesses extraordinary levels of attitude and intellectual aptitude in her studies. Her ability to comprehend and express abstract ideas goes beyond the expectations of all her academic mentors. Her abilities and strengths in her work is evident and noted by both internal and external examiners during critique sessions and assessment.
UCLan signed an agreement in 2015 with the Qatar Ministry of Interior (Civil Defence) to offer fire programmes at the Ras Laffan Emergency and Safety College (RLESC), Doha. In January 2016 the Advanced Diploma in Fire Safety Management commenced delivered by a dedicated UCLan in-country team under the academic leadership of Gary Bond as Dean of College. Following the agreement of Qatar Civil Defence for the expansion of the collaboration, additional agreements were signed in January 2017 for an Advanced Diploma in Emergency and Crisis Management and CPD courses for 2017. Further potential Advanced Diploma courses under discussion to utilise the £302 million world-class facility at RLESC, the Middle East’s leading training institution for fire services and emergency responders, include Fire Engineering, Security Management and Industrial Fire Safety Engineering.
UCLan has had a longstanding partnership with Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE) since 2001 when the first collaborative agreement was signed with Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade. In June 2013, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade secured Chinese Ministry of Education approval to become the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.
Throughout the partnership there have been regular staff exchanges, with UCLan staff being permanently based at SUIBE and regular staff exchanges between the two campuses. Over 80 visiting scholars from SUIBE have come to UCLan for professional development purposes and to undertake research and higher qualifications.

SUIBE Graduate Successes
Roy Wang, progressed to UCLan from the SUIBE joint programme in English for International Business, graduating in 2004. He then went on to complete his Masters in Marketing Management and worked for IBM as a Marketing Communication Officer and is now a business partner of a Business Branding Company.
Jeffery Lu, graduated from UCLan with a Masters in Intercultural Business Communication and returned to Shanghai in 2006. He is now working as Research Manager in Noble Cotton, Asia's largest diversified commodities trading company, having worked in a cotton factory to improve his knowledge of the cotton industry. He is now based in Singapore.
Xiaowei Yang completed his Bachelor degree in International Business Communication in 2007 and continued with Masters study. In 2011 he joined Kintetsu World Express, which is the second largest logistics company in Japan and has since been appointed to Senior Key Account Officer
Jessica Zhao studied at UCLAN in 2008. With her PSW visa, she worked as an Assistant Manager in a TK Maxx London branch. She is now a Senior Sales Executive of Givenchy Shanghai Commercial and Trading Company.
Lina ZHENG visited from the School of Foreign Languages in September 2013 to January 2014. This is what she had to say about her time spent at UCLan; “We had a good time at UCLan last semester. From the four-month courses, we learned a lot about linguistics, research methods, business and management. The professors were competent and knew their subjects well. We were really very grateful to the professors for their advice in the after-class discussions. The director Paul, Karen from the International Office, and other administrators were always ready to help. Their thoughtfulness gave us great joy, and it was generous of them to show us so much consideration, we appreciated it a lot. Meanwhile, we enjoyed our stay on UCLan campus and learned a lot about the people's life and culture in the U.K. The four months of visiting was short, but it was a precious experience in our life.”

President Sun Haiming was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in June 2011 for his outstanding contribution to the development and internationalisation of higher education and collaboration between SUIBE and UCLan.

Shenzhen University is a long-established partner. Shenzhen University runs a one year foundation programme called ‘International Business & Finance’ whereby successfully completed students’ progress to a UCLan course at its main campus. Collaboration is with the UCLan School; Lancashire Business School.
Prof Zhang Bigong, President, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in June 2007 for his outstanding contribution to the reform, development and internationalisation of higher education and collaboration and exchange on joint programmes between Shenzhen University and UCLan.

VTC is the largest training provider in Hong Kong and places significant emphasis on the partnership relationship. UCLan and VTC have been working together for a number of years and offer a wide range of courses. Currently, over 400 students are enrolled on five courses within the three UCLan Schools of Engineering; Art, Design and Fashion and Business.

Proposed event was formed with few game & challenge rounds to test the IQ levels, Knowledge on Current Affairs, Confidence as well as to enhance their Team working skills and develop the entrepreneurial skills to stand out as competent individuals in future.
Inviting 20 schools to take part and experience this uniquely designed competition Info-Biz Challenge ’17, the event concluded by launching a new partnership with University of Central Lancashire, UK to offer Full Time four year Degrees of BA (Hons) International Business & BSc (Hons) Software Engineering with a guaranteed internship year for all the undergraduates taking the path.
UCLan has partnered with Eduko Lanka, a private education services company which owns Universal College Lanka (UCL) in Colombo, to offer BSc (Hons) Software Engineering and BA (Hons) International Business from September 2017.
In a formal event held recently in Colombo, UCLan signed an agreement with Universal College Lanka. The new partnership will open opportunities in Undergraduate and Postgraduate education with a distinct interest on Research.
The programmes will be delivered by a highly qualified team of academic staff in a purpose built modern facility at UCL in Colombo.

Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) is one of the top science, engineering and technology universities in China and the world. UCLan has had a longstanding and successful partnership with BIT since 1998, for establishing the joint programme on BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering. There are currently more than 100 students studying in the three-year programme. Throughout the partnership, there have also been regular staff exchanges between two universities, and a series of student experience programme developed to strengthen the partnership including UCLan-BIT Engineering Summer School and Graduate Projects.
UCLan Course offered at BIT:
UCLan is delighted to announce the launch of its new partnership with Hunan Normal University (HNU). UCLan and HNU will be collaborating on a joint programme which has recently been approved by the Ministry of Education in China. The UCLan BA (Hons) Sport and Physical Education degree will be delivered in Changsha at HNU, with staff based in country and will have a football focus. This is an exciting time for both UCLan and HNU who will be working closely over the coming months to start delivery in September 2018.
David Grecic and Nick Passenger from the UCLan School of Sport and Wellbeing visited recently and delivered some PE sessions with the students from the Sports college at HNU and discussed the joint programme preparations with the team.
27 October 2018 saw the official launch of the BSc (Hons) Sport and Physical Education franchise - UCLan’s latest significant development in China - with Hunan Normal University. The programme is football-focused and closely aligns with China’s 13th Five Year Strategy and is also one of only 3 MoE-approved sport programmes approved initially and is the only one approved in the southern half of the country. Dedicated facilities have been developed for the joint programme and are of the highest standard.

They also had the opportunity to meet the first cohort of students undertaking the Sport and Physical Education programme.
The UCLan delegation were also able to take part in HNU’s 80th anniversary celebrations, and presented Hunan Normal University with a PNE shirt as a memento of the occasion.
UCLan and Chongqing University of Education have partnered to offer a joint programme in BA (Hons) Events Management, in connection with Oriental Innovation (Beijing) International Education who recently launched a project to encourage UK & China University collaborations. Students will be able to study in China for the full 4 years at Chongqing University of Education in China but will also have the opportunity to progress to UCLan in the UK for their final year of study.
A grand opening ceremony has been held for a new international programme jointly developed by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and Chongqing University of Education (CQUE) in China.
Dharma Kovvuri-Dean of the UCLan Burnley Campus and Director of Business Development in the Lancashire School of Business and Enterprise, Huiping DU-President of CQUE, Bingjun CHEN-Deputy Director of the Chongqing Municipal Education Authority attended the ceremony together with other partners and around 300 students recruited onto the programme.
This programme was established under the aegis of the Chinese Ministry of Education National Centre for Schooling Development. It will see cooperation between UCLan and CQUE in five different subject areas encompassing business, management and hospitality.
The recruitment quota of 300 for the first year was fully met and as of the opening ceremony, registration rate surpassed 85%. Average Gaokao English score for the first cohort was 110 for business subjects and 120 for hospitality subjects.
As students in programme T-shirts walk into the venue, set in the city of Chongqing by the Yangtze river, they write their hopes and wishes on the theme wall.
“A journey of thousand miles starts by this first step”, Dharma inspires students by quoting a Chinese proverb and encourages them to become future business leaders with international vision.
Bingjun CHEN-Deputy Director of the Chongqing Education Authority reaffirms the important nature of this international initiative and expects the programme to deliver high-level talents for the local economy in the years to come.
CQUE President DU Huiping welcomes students onto the programme and promises comprehensive support from the university management team in order to make it a success.
The top management teams from both universities as well as representatives from the education authority and other partners pour golden sand onto the plaque and formally declared the programme open.
