Our LaunchPad leadership development programme will help you develop the professional skills you need to become a global leader of tomorrow.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have taken the difficult decision to suspend the Launchpad programme for 2020-2021. We will review this situation at the start of the New Year.

What is it?

Every year, LaunchPad recruits a new cohort of up to 30 highly motivated second-year students from across select Schools and Faculties at UCLan. These students learn about the challenges of the current job market and the leadership approaches needed to address them in both theory and practice.

Programmes such as this typically cost thousands of pounds to access privately, but we offer this programme FREE for all eligible students.

What will I do?

As a LaunchPad student, you will attend regular workshops during term time. These focus on personal development, and building skills needed to become more employable.

You will learn about personal branding, the importance of online presence, CV writing, interview techniques, and how to build a business network. Students also have the opportunity to manage projects and run events, such as the end of year study tour.

We also invite high profile guest speakers to give talks and share their experience of the business world. Recent speakers include: Paul Heathcote MBE, Ann Francke OBE, and Steve Rook.

"My experience with LaunchPad has been so insightful! I have learnt a lot about my strengths as a person in both a personal and work setting, and I’ve been able to improve my weaknesses and turn them into my strengths."

Hannah Whittaker, BA (Hons) Event Management student

Established links

We have excellent links with professional bodies such as the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the Institute of Directors (IoD) and a range of businesses.

Our students were the first in the country to be invited to join the newly established IoD Student Membership Programme that offers a range of benefits to supporting their studies and their future career.

You will also have the opportunity to complete a CMI award as part of your studies.

Company visits and overseas trips

As a LaunchPad student, you will have the opportunity to visit a number of different companies in the UK to gain insight into the world of leadership and management. There is also the option to undertake an overseas study tour at the end of the programme. This fantastic opportunity gives students the chance to gain first-hand experience of business management in a global context, and develop transferable skills that prove invaluable in the world of work.
