Our campuses

The School of Medicine has UK campus sites in Preston, Burnley and Westlakes, near the English Lake District National Park in Cumbria.

The medical summer school will take place at our Westlakes Campus near Whitehaven, Cumbria. You will also get the chance to visit our Preston Campus on the day of arrival and tour the facilities prior to onward travel to Westlakes.

Accommodation

You'll stay in Summergrove Halls whilst at the medical summer school. It's a modern accommodation nestled in its own beautiful gardens. You'll get iconic English Lakeland scenery in all directions.

The halls are only a short walk from the UCLan Westlakes Campus. All rooms will be single-occupancy en-suite.

Dates: Sunday 9th to Sunday 16th July 2023

Price: £2750

Location: The medical summer school will primarily take place in our Westlakes campus in Cumbria. Transport will be provided from Preston.

Arrival time and location: 11.00am (BST) on Sunday 9 July 2023 at UCLan School of Medicine, Preston Campus

Departure time and location: 11.00am (BST) on Sunday 16 July 2023 at UCLan School of Medicine, Preston Campus

You will be expected to travel to and from the start and end point of Preston either independently or with assistance from a parent, a UK-based guardian or chaperone service. We will provide onward travel to Westlakes campus as part of the programme as well as return travel back to Preston.

Preston has excellent transport links to Manchester International Airport via road and rail links. The fee does not include travel to and from the UCLan Preston Campus.

The Summer School will primarily take place in our Westlakes campus in Whitehaven, Cumbria.

You will also get the opportunity to visit our Preston Campus and tour the facilities on the day of arrival.

All staff are DBS checked and trained in safeguarding
There will be two Safeguarding Leads who will be trained to Level 3 in Safeguarding: one will be responsible for day cover and the other for overnight
All students will be supervised throughout the summer school and will have their own personal single en-suite bedroom with secure key card access
Staff will be available on site at the accommodation at Summergrove Halls and students will be registered each evening

All applicants must

Be an international (non-UK) student
Be in their 12th or 13th year of education (e.g., 1st/ 2nd year of A-Level/IB)
Be aged 16-18 for the duration of the summer school (9 – 16 July 2023)
Have a good level of English - iGCSE (international GCSE) or equivalent at grade B and above

Fee excludes spending money
Private health/travel insurance is a condition of attendance
Participants must secure their own travel visas as required

UK-based guardian for under 18s

If you are under 18 at the start of the programme, your place is subject to the completion of the Under-18 Student Form with signatures from your parent/guardian and a nominated UK based guardian.

Where the parents of an international student remain abroad, and there is no relative or family friend in the UK who can be appointed guardian by the student’s parents, the University requires that the student provide details of a guardian based in the UK. Preferably this should be someone who is in or near to the University. The guardian should be an adult who the University can contact in case of emergency and can act in loco parentis.
