University of Central Lancashire, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 2HE
This event is part of our first year computing students' module. In the morning, they will showcase the apps they have built and their posters to the wider University community.
The Computing Challenge symposium is a showcase and celebration of our students' hard work and achievement after studying an intense 3-week teamwork module following induction.
The symposium takes the form of a trade show where each team has a stall, with a poster, and various giveaways for visitors, showcasing a mobile phone app they have built over the 3 weeks.
This year we are especially keen to bring in as many visitors from the wider University community as possible to give our students an authentic experience, and a sense of pride in their work.
The Computing Challenge is undertaken by all first-year students across our Computing programmes, students are placed into teams and are tasked with developing and promoting a mobile phone application.
The module is designed to give students a taste of different aspects of a Computer Science degree, covering many of the core Computing concepts, but also marketing and promoting themselves.
The Challenge aims to ease the transition into university life through an intensive gamified experience.
Last year’s symposium was a huge success where 38 teams of students took part, but we are hoping for 2024 to be the best yet.
