Job summary

You will develop into an engineer who can apply basic engineering concepts and mechanical processes and use them to design new devices and systems.

Engineers need good problem-solving skills, taking scientific principles and discoveries and using them to design and build useful products. You’ll learn how to systematically apply those principles in order to solve unpredictable, real-world engineering problems.

You’ll be equipped with the skills and expertise needed to design, analyse and optimise mechanical systems.

Full job description

  • Operate and maintain lathe and milling machines.
  • Review drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production.
  • Take precise measurements for cutting or shaping.
  • Select appropriate machine and settings for a given task.
  • Plan sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.
  • Monitor production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary.
  • Maintain inventory of completed products.
  • Check output for quality assurance and documents or discards defects.
  • Identify need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Communicate with the Supervisor to insure the smooth running of work load.
  • Generally assist in the smooth running of assigned projects throughout the production process.
  • Comply with Workshop Safety Standards and Quality Assurance Procedures applicable to control panel manufacture.
  • The above duties and responsibilities represent the main responsibilities of this position, however all employees are expected to undertake any other work within their capabilities and be flexible in their job role.
