This course is aimed at anyone with responsibility for responding to emergencies at the tactical level and will provide attendees with the knowledge of working at that level for emergency response

Topics covered in the course include:

  • Command and Control Structures
  • JESIP
  • METHANE
  • The role of the tactical officer
  • Working as part of a tactical team
  • Tactical decision making aids
  • Shared situational awareness
  • Decision logging
  • Briefing and debriefing processes

Learning outcomes and aims

By the end of the course attendees will be able to:

Identify:

  • the differences between the Operational, Tactical and Strategic levels of response
  • the key information requirements of a Tactical Control Centre
  • the challenges to multi-agency decision making

Describe:

  • good practice in Information Management and Shared Situational Awareness
  • decision-making models and tools
  • the roles within a Tactical Control Centre
  • the need for Operational Record-Keeping and Decision Logs
  • Good practice in briefings and debriefings

Create:

  • a decision log
  • a Tactical Plan in an exercise
