Joy currently works as a Course Leader/Senior Lecturer and Consultant Physiotherapist and within the School of Community Health and Midwifery at the University of Central Lancashire. She specialises in anatomy and physiology, developing clinical skills, complex case management, long term condition management, rehabilitation and research. Joy is involved in course delivery and assessment, including clinical assessments such as OSCEs from Level 3 to Level 8.

Managerially, Joy has successfully managed and led clinical teams across different specialties in the NHS for over 15 years. She successfully completed a Management and Leadership development programme with Liverpool John Moores University in 2008. Joy’s work ethic is one of leadership by example and collaborative work to design innovative clinical interventions, improve services, enhance work and clinical environments and develop others through inter-professional learning/development programmes. Joy has worked successfully in partnership with Liverpool CCG, Public Health Liverpool and Liverpool Council to embed change in practice with new clinical pathways to ensure a multi-faceted and flexible approach to the management of chronic respiratory disease. Joy has also delivered training for the North West Deanery as part of the Specialist Registrars Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme and Liverpool CCG’s CPD programme for GPs and Community Matrons. Joy has a proven track record in managing change within the workforce in being part of the Transition Team for the Knowsley COPD MDT in 2010, establishing new working relationships with LCCG following the dissolution of the PCT in 2012/2013 and managing the significantly expanded PR MDT and organisational change within the Therapies department at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in 2015 and 2016, including individual performance reviews, appraisals, service reviews and developmental matters. Joy has a successful track record of leading PR recruitment drives as the Recruitment Manager, coordinating all aspects of the process in conjunction with the Human Resources department in addition to having extensive experience of chairing or co-chairing interview panels. Joy has also been working with Liverpool CCG in the service redesign and amalgamation of cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services. Academically, Joy has a BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy and completed a PhD in Public Health at the University of Central Lancashire in 2017. Joy has worked for over 17 years as a guest lecturer at different Universities and for over 10 years in clinical competency training and interprofessional clinical education within the NHS where she successfully developed skills such as Learning Needs Analysis, identifying and implementing educational strategies to facilitate effective learning and skills acquisition within the clinical setting. She has developed clinical preceptorship, mentorship and clinical supervision strategies and guidelines for Therapy staff as well as clinical competency matrices for the Therapies department. Joy is the current course leader and admissions tutor for the Foundation Entry (FdE) in Counselling & Psychotherapy, Health & Social Care and Sexual Health Studies. Joy has achieved Full Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and is intending to work towards achieving senior fellowship status in the future. She is also a Deputy Vice Chair for the Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Health (STEMH) Ethics Committee at the University of Central Lancashire. Joy has actively participated in business bids for the Faculty and has been successful in winning tenders for the Faculty; Joy has been working in partnership with UCLan, Cumbria and Lancashire care Trust in training staff for several cohorts of the IAPTS programme since 2017. She is also working with the UCLan Leadership hub in delivering a Leadership training programme for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) from 2019 as well as delivering training for the NHS’s First Contact Practitioner (FCP) Scheme since 2018. Joy has had consultancy posts with Liverpool CCG in 2017 and started a consultancy post in December 2019 with the Knowsley Community Respiratory Team based at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
