Course Content

Course Outline:
This is a two-hour practical workshop suitable for sports coaches and teachers that will explore the current evidence around approaches coaches can use to help prevent injuries.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to implement some practical strategies for lowering the risk of injury.

Andy Cunningham

Andy Cunningham is a Sports Therapist and Principal Lecturer in the Division of Rehabilitation Sciences and has been involved in leading and delivering teaching on the BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy and MSc Sports Medicine courses. He is an accredited Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the International Youth Conditioning Association.

Learning outcome & aims

By the end of the workshops participants will have an understanding of:

- Strategies to reduce the risk of injury
- The role of a warm up
- The evidence behind stretching as a prevention strategy
- Do we need to prioritise young people in sport?
- Which exercises may work?
- The approaches to reducing the risk of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries

We also have links with the smaller companies in the region and offer help and assistance to more than 1,000 of these – with many of our graduates staying in the region it is important we develop these relationships.
