Why study this course?

Foundation Entry degree courses are designed for students who have the ability to study for a degree, but don’t have the necessary formal qualifications to enter directly onto their chosen Honours degree programme. BA (Hons) Digital Marketing is an exciting course, which looks to challenge you with a forward-thinking curriculum that will future-proof graduates in the ever-changing world of digital marketing. A flexible course and range of module options allows you to customise your degree and specialise your learning for your chosen career path, digital, content and SEO.

Real-life agency work or internship experience in your third year provides you with practical experiences that will give you a head start in entering the job market after graduation

You may select the option of a year in industry with a marketing placement in the UK or overseas. Alternatively, you can spend your sandwich year studying at a foreign university. The course offers the opportunity to learn a foreign language. This would prepare you for a study abroad year, but would also significantly enhance your communications skills within a global marketplace.

Entry Requirements

Our typical offer is 72 UCAS Points.  We operate a flexible admissions policy and treat everyone as an individual. This means that we will take into consideration your educational achievements and predicted grades (where applicable) together with your application as a whole, including work experience and your personal statement. General Studies accepted.

BTEC Extended Diploma: Merit, Merit, Pass
BTEC Diploma: Distinction, Merit
Pass Access Course: 72 UCAS Points 
International Baccalaureate: Pass Diploma with 72 UCAS points from Higher Level Subjects
IELTS: 6.0 with no score lower than 5.5
GCSE: 5 at grade C/4 including Maths and English or equivalent

UCLan requires all undergraduate applicants to have a minimum attainment of five GCSEs at grade C and above, or equivalent, (including Maths and English). In 2017 and beyond we will view the new Grade 4 as being equivalent to a C grade and will therefore require students to achieve GCSE Grade 4 or above. However, if the subject is relevant to our degree programme and requires a higher GCSE grade (e.g. GCSE B grade), and/or includes a Professional body that governs the entry requirements, Grade 5 or above may be required.

We place great emphasis on preparing students for the workplace. Some assignments feature briefs from real companies. Visits are organised to companies and marketing practitioners share their expertise during guest lectures on campus. The optional placement year provides the opportunity to obtain a prolonged period of work experience and in the final year you will have the option of completing either an internship module or a module where you experience working within an agency environment.

You may choose to study your second year of the course at a foreign university. Alternatively, you may spend your third year as a ‘sandwich year’ studying abroad, before returning to UCLan to complete your final year of study. The School organises a range of international field trips, with China being a prominent destination. Trips are also organised to European destinations, including the UCLan Cyprus Campus. The Preston Campus in itself offers an international experience with students and staff from all over the world!


The course prepares you for working for a digital marketing agency, joining the in-house marketing team of an organisation and even setting up your own digital marketing business. The possibilities are truly endless, with marketing being of key importance to every profit-making and not-for-profit organisation alike.

The course offers a progression route to further academic study at postgraduate level, which may be a master’s degree or a Doctoral qualification.

The opportunity for students to move between the apprenticeship and undergraduate programmes is also available.

This course is an ideal starting point if you wish to pursue a career within digital marketing. You will be able to benefit from the School’s strong business network of local and national businesses. Throughout the academic year, there is a continuous programme of guest lectures and workshops providing relevant industry insight. There is also the opportunity for students to engage in networking with industry practitioners. The course offers a number of modules and options with the opportunity to gain practical experience working on real digital marketing projects within an agency or internship environment. In addition, you have the opportunity to work towards professional body qualifications along with your course.


We have close links with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and are part of the Graduate Gateway scheme. Upon graduation, you are entitled to exemptions from CIM professional qualifications, expediting the route towards achieving Chartered Marketer status. The course also offers the opportunity to gain certification by the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM).
