Become a cyber security professional and learn how to identify real world tier 1 threats and propose solutions. We can see that more and more security professionals are currently being recruited and employed, as cyber security becomes a priority to businesses and organisations.
Cyber security is about understanding attacking methods and learning how to protect against them. During the cyber security course, the students can gain skills in identifying and exploiting vulnerabilities in computer networks and systems, as well as learning how to protect them against hacker attacks. The students combine their interest in programming, computer networks and security to become the cyber security professional of the future. Namely, the students will:
1. Be able to develop an understanding of a range of hacking attack methods and tools.
2. Be able to set up a virtual, isolated environment for security, vulnerability testing.
3. Be able to critically evaluate different defence methods and pick the most appropriate one.
4. Be able to apply defence methods to a given (real-life) scenario.
5. Be able to analyse a given security related case/incident/situation in terms of ethical and legal issues.
A cyber security technical professional operates in business or technology / engineering functions across a range of sectors of the economy including critical national infrastructure (such as energy, transport, water, finance), public and private, large and small. They will normally operate with a considerable degree of autonomy and will lead teams which research, analyse, model, assess and manage cyber security risks; design, develop, justify, manage and operate secure solutions; and detect and respond to incidents. They work in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and ethics.

DURATION: Cyber Security Technical Professional is normally a 3 year programme followed by the end point assessment (certification of the completion of the apprenticeship) within 6-12 months.
FEES: Tuition Fees are paid by funding through the Employer and/or Government via the Apprenticeship Levy, meaning that you as the learner do not pay the standard tuition fee rates. Students on Degree Apprenticeships do not qualify for any funding from Student Finance.

The Security and Forensic Research Lab (SAFeR) at the University of Central Lancashire undertake real-world research with real-world implications. Your employees will be taught by highly qualified staff who are actively improving the security landscape.

The Degree Apprenticeship programme includes an End Point Assessment (EPA) to check that students have met the Apprenticeship Standard competencies and are ready to join the profession with full occupational competence.
Apprenticeships allow the learner to combine work and study by mixing on-the-job training with classroom learning. An apprentice will be employed to do a real job while studying for a formal qualification, usually for one day a week at one of our UCLan campuses or training centres. By the end of their apprenticeship, they will have gained the skills and knowledge needed to either succeed in their chosen career or progress onto the next apprenticeship level.
Apprentices in every role follow an approved study programme, which means they’ll gain a nationally recognised qualification at the end of their apprenticeship.

FUNDING BAND: The funding band for Cyber Security Technical Professional standard is £24,000, which is the maximum price of the Degree Apprenticeship.

Funding bands range from £1,500 to £27,000 and sets the maximum amount of digital funds an employer who pays the levy can use towards an individual apprenticeship.
