Free business support helps Colne firm wrap up digital goals

Challenge

Colne-based Wrapped UK was established in 2017 and specialises in vehicle wrapping, graphics and the application of paint protection film. The business is operated solely by owner Ash Ellison, and provides services to clients including Lloyd MINI, Lloyd BMW and XLCR Management.

Ash has experience in implementing digital marketing tactics, including social media. However, he was keen to obtain a fresh perspective and expand his knowledge, to maximise the performance of the company’s new website, attract clients and develop a team through the recruitment of new members of staff, including an apprentice.

Solution

In stepped Digital First, a team of digital specialists and students from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) which helps promote and achieve growth through a range of digital tools and tactics.

The Digital First ERDF team conducted a review of Wrapped UK’s presence on its existing social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat and Instagram. The team concluded that Ash was a natural when it came to social media marketing and digital networking but suggested he attend their Digital Marketing for Growth event to learn how to use paid advertising features to reach an even greater audience. At the event, Ash also learned more about digital tactics such as SEO and copywriting for online audiences.

The Digital First team also devised a strategy focusing on the creation of engaging content for the website, creating blog articles relevant to the company’s target audiences, that could be shared on social media to drive people back to the website and increase enquiries.

In addition, the team put Ash in contact with UCLan’s Centre for SME Development so that he could find out more about the University’s Degree Apprenticeships offering, as well as the range of business support services available to help him achieve his business goals.

Benefits

Following the programme of support, advice and guidance provided by Digital First, Ash gained an array of fresh ideas, along with a better understanding of how to utilise his existing social media channels to promote Wrapped UK on a wider scale. As a result, the company’s online fanbase is beginning to grow and the business is in a better position to increase its client base and attract staff. In addition, Ash will be taking on his first employee in early 2019.

Ash said: “I would definitely recommend Digital First because it has been fantastic. I was given lots of tips and fresh ideas, in addition to an insight into the best ways to implement them to help create new leads and get more custom. I was also shown how to write blog articles in a way that would capture the right audience and help grow my social media pages.

“I am pretty good on social media but thanks to Digital First I have adopted a much more effective approach. I’m looking forward to using what I’ve learnt going forward and achieving my objective of taking on an apprentice and beginning to develop a team.”
